These tips can enhance health and fitness and can be applied to various goals, making them a valuable resource for personal growth.
1. Ask yourself WHY? Then write it down
Be honest with yourself about the reasons you desire to improve. In my experience, putting it on paper makes it real.
- Do you need to get fit? Why?
- Do you need an energy boost? Why?
- Do you want to drop some additional weight? Why?
- Or are you looking to compete at a higher level? Why?
The reason you provide helps you understand how to achieve your goals. For instance, if you want to get fit for energy to play with your kids, you can increase activity levels by involving them in activities they enjoy, such as racing or working out on the sidelines. These are some tips for being happier.
2. Set a GOAL and make a plan
Many people find that once they have a specific goal to strive toward, it motivates them to get started. Begin with something achievable and make sure your goal is tangible. Deciding to ‘get fit’ is pretty abstract, so try to quantify what you want to do. Maybe you want to walk outside for at least 10 minutes every day or you want to be fit enough to take part in a five-mile jog in three months. Think about what you can do and what you will do to become more active.
3. SHARE your goal
Tell others about your aim, and they will help you stay on track. If you discuss your intentions with a loved one, friend, or coworker, they can support you by holding you accountable. Making a verbal promise might also help you gain drive. Once you’ve verbally committed to improving yourself, the added pressure of someone inquiring about it may motivate you to succeed. These are tips for being happier and staying motivated on days when you are fatigued or looking for an excuse to give up.
4. PLAN for success instead of failure
Avoid self-sabotage. If you hate running, including it in your plan can ruin your efforts before they even begin. Yes, running is beneficial for you, but if it brings up bad memories of childhood gym class or cross-country races, you’ll probably end up cleaning out an old closet instead!
